BACKGAMMON

With a documented history dating back more than 5,000 years, backgammon is one of the oldest games in existence. Although the origins of the game are unknown, it is believed that backgammon was first played in the Mesopotamian Plains of Southern Turkey, Northern Syria and Iraq. Today, backgammon, or tavla as it called in Turkish, can be thought of as the national board game of Turkey. Backgammon is played nearly everywhere (including street corners, cafes and the beach) throughout the country.
