Sumak floor coverings are flat-woven carpets or tapestries made in Turkey and the surrounding regions. Sumak is a tapestry technique of weaving strong and decorative textiles used as floor coverings. Although sumak resembles kilim, they are typically stronger and thicker. Additionally, sumak have a smooth front and a ragged back (whereas kilim is smooth both sides). A handmade floor covering can take months or years to create.
