Jason B Graham | Olive – Zeytin

olives-3731

Olive trees are commonly acknowledged as the world’s first tree. Although it is difficult to determine the origin of the olive, it is generally believed to be indigenous to Turkey. In fact, genetic and archeological research indicates that domesticated olive trees are a subspecies of wild olive trees found growing in a line that stretches from the Mediterranean city of Hatay to Southeastern Anatolian city of Mardin. The olive tree, which has a lifespan of up to four hundred years, still thrives on Turkey’s Aegean and Mediterranean regions.
