Suzani is an ancient type of hand embroidery. The name suzani comes from the Persian word suzan or needle. Traditionally, suzani textiles were made from remnants of fabric. The remnants of fabric were distributed among local women and embroidered separately. Upon completion, the embroidered remnants would be sewn together to create one large, decorative textile. Suzani motifs often include colorful vines and large floral medallions.
