Aegean Region

Turkey’s Aegean coastline is beautiful, historic and agriculturally rich. Known for crystal clear sea and pristine beaches, the Aegean coast is home to quaint fishing villages and popular holiday resorts. Additionally, the region is home to more than 5,000 years of culture and history.

Location

The Aegean Region lies on the western side of Turkey. It is bound by the Aegean Sea to the west; Marmara Region to the north; Mediterranean Region to the south; Central Anatolia Region to the east.

Climate

The climate of the Aegean Region is Mediterranean on the coast, with hot, dry summers and mild to cool, wet winters. In contrast, the interior climate is semi-arid with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Temperatures range from -8 to 43°C (18 – 109°F). Rainfall averages 645 mm (25 inches) per year. The region has an average humidity of 69%.
