Grand Bazaar | Istanbul, Turkey
Grand Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. With 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops, the market attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. Commissioned by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1461, the Grand Bazaar started humbly as a small vaulted warehouse (bedesten). Over time, the market grew to cover a vast thousands of meters as lanes between the warehouse and neighboring buildings were roofed.
